Notes
Notes:
- DAT master courtesy of Ted Mattes.
- Thanks to Charlie for directing traffic.
- live FM broadcast on KPFK radio
- minor hand claps were tidy'd up
- Derby Day, make that The Phil is On day.
- May 5 being a traditional gambling day in the USofA, the safe bet was on a Garcia ballad after space. GDTRFB, was the long shot, & it pays dividends!
- Give this show its due & proper by playing it loud.

Leary and Bear in attendence a priority would be placed on the PA sound? I think it's a great show worthy of somebody getting into the vault for a better copy."
How could they fix the sound/vault copy if Healy mixed it for the PA and thus master tapes. Quit complaining and enjoy what we have.
I was there and was talking to Leary during drums on 5/6 - he really enjoyed the mix. Met Bear too after the show in Venice on 5/5. He wished there was something closer to a line array PA system for the flat Carson soccer field. He said it would have sounded better and better farther away.
Regardless, this show sounded great up close! 5-6 was even better and better sounding.

Hi GD Fans, wow, after looking for a upgrade to this show it seems to be in the crap bag from the beginning; every source sounds like crap. The best
...
source for a FM SBD is the latest and it's mono? It seems the best source is only a set one recording on master cassette by Andrew F. 20 feet from the stage; so we are picking up sound from the stage which is all the difference in fidelity.
Another strange aspect is: after reading some reviews it seems that this show was a hot one , 105 degrees which could have plagued the PA. However, Healy was using the gates/compression on the drums and you can hear it clamping down on the percussive dynamics. You would think with Timothy Leary and Bear in attendence a priority would be placed on the PA sound? I think it's a great show worthy of somebody getting into the vault for a better copy. Perhaps, a candidate for a XM Sirius radio show? It seems the GD always bring out the goods on Ky. Derby Day.
